Sun Bum

Sun Bum was founded in 2010 in Cocoa Beach, Florida – the hometown of legendary surfer Kelly Slater and one of the most famous surf spots on the US East Coast. The founders wanted to create a sunscreen brand that was different from the big pharmaceutical brands: with better formulas, cool design, and an honest beach-culture identity. The mascot – a monkey with sunglasses – represents the brand's relaxed, not-too-serious approach. Sun Bum quickly became the best-selling sunscreen brand in US surf shops.

The Sun Bum range is more extensive than one might initially think. In addition to classic sunscreens with various SPF levels, there is lip balm, after-sun products, hair care for salt-water-damaged hair (shampoo, conditioner, oils), and a suncare line especially for children. All products are free from oxybenzone and octinoxate – chemical UV filters that are considered harmful to reefs and are banned in several surfing regions. Sun Bum relies on mineral filters and skin-friendly ingredients. The packaging design is iconic: brown, warm, with the banana monkey – recognizable from 10 meters away.
